The first league
home game would be played at Austrian Park. Today Wham
would be the opponent and a Sportclub team hungry for a
win would start the game with steady passing game and
weave into Wham's end but with no luck. Joe Arwady would
make a few good runs but seemed to be stopped short.
Wham would get a break down the left side cross it over
and see their forward tip the ball past the SC UV
defense and find another Wham forward waiting to volley
the ball into the net. The first half would end 1-0. The
second half started with a sense of urgency as as the SC
team wanted to get even. pressuring the Wham defense
would create a opportunity for Dave Fleischer to swipe
the ball away from the defender race down the left side
and hammer a low shot past a sliding keeper and into the
net. 1-1 and a bit of hope. Ten minutes later a long
ball that was thought out by the Wham defense would hang
by the corner flag as leading goal scorer and scrapper
Joe Arwady would run to the ball take off to the Wham
net make a pass to a running up Frank Gablowski but be
tipped into the net by the Wham defense. 2-1 SC UV and a
chance for a win was in site. You could see the SC team
go on defense and try to keep it 2-1 one.
