The field was in great condition even
though the rain had washed out others fields this Sunday. The
rematch of ASC 24 and AEK Athens the first place team. the prior
meeting ended up a 6-1 lashing of ASC 24. The game stated out with
Athens very speedy forwards running around ASC 24 defense. The
many shots Athens took never found the mark until the midway of
the first half when their fastest forward beat out 2 ASC 24
defensemen and took a shot into the lower corner. The half ended
1-0.
The start of the second half was
partly sunny and extremely humid. ASC
24 reconfigured the line up and took on the speedy Greek team.
Athens continued to test the ASC 24 goalie with no success. A
break up the left wing to Ed Monley who beat out the one of the
defensive men and hit Mike Fabbri with a pass who beat a man, took
the shot then grabbed the rebound from the goalie who was on his
back and put it into the empty net. The Athens team came back
later to put in 2 quick goals against a tired ASC 24 Defense.
Another break up the right side by Mark Kurzner who put a low pass
to a waiting Dave Fleischer who one timed the pass to beat the
goalie over his head on the far side to come within one goal. A
near miss by Ed Monley and then another by Lars Ludwig could have
tied up the game, but time was over and the ASC 24 team lost 3-2.
