Austrian Sport Club 1924 A (4)  vs  Rochester United (1)

The beginning of the second half of the season was at hand, and the Austrian team looked to better their first half record of 2-3-2. First up was a Rochester team they were beaten by in the first game of the season 4-1. The rain stopped prior to kickoff, but they had to contend with a wet field for a short time. The sport clubbers looked to handle the ball well as they pressed the United defense. Finally around the 15 minute mark, the new addition to the team Mike Vigh, took a missed pass from Rochester, turned and fired a 30 yard shot the goalie tried to block away and failed, 1-0.  10 minutes later Mark Kurzer was stopped at the 18 yard line and pushed into the goalie, but Dave Fleischer kept his head up and pushed in the 2-0 goal.  Mark Kurzer kept the attack going as he took a flick from Lars Ludwig, moved it from his left to his right foot, and fired past the goalie. The first half ended with 3-0.  Rochester tried to press at the beginning of the second half, but the Sport Club defense thwarted all efforts.  A misplaced ball by Rochester lead to a counter attack by Roberto Pelini, who placed a nice ball across to Ed Monley who finished for the 4-0 lead.  A free kick later in the half allowed the Rochester team to get a head on a chance to keep ASC from the shut out, but that is all the attack they could muster.  Game ends 4-1. "We controlled the middle of the field, and played very well against a very good team. You'd never know from today our record is 2-3-2 and they are 5-1-1." The next game for Austrian Sport Club A is 9/14 at Founder's Park in Farmington at 11:00 against AEK Athens.
