SC 1924 A
(5) vs.
Anchor Bay Anchors (2)

The grass was
groomed beautifully but wet for the game against Anchor Bay Anchors
who were cruising through the 3rd division and sitting in
4th place with a 5-2 record. SC 24 ‘A’ team were bottom feeders of
the 3rd division with a 1-1-4 record and needing a win
badly to stay in the division, as a matter of fact they need to win
the remaining games to stay in the 3rd division. The game
started off with even play for the most part, it was easy to see why
Anchor Bay had 5 wins. They had many skilled players, but SC 24
played equally to Anchor bay’s skill. Daniel Santos found his way past
the Anchors defense and put in the 1st goal for SC.
Anchor bay responded later in the second half with a play down the
wing then to the middle for the goal. Game was tied 1-1 getting
close to half time. The assault of Mike Fabbri in the box a few
times did not find a whistle from the referee but the hand ball from
one Anchor defensemen did. A penalty shot was called and Dave
Fleischer stepped up and put the ball into the lower corner for a
2-1 lead at half time. The second half started with the Anchors
stepping up play but SC 24 stepped higher and shut down run after
run with equal or better attacks on the Anchors goal. The Anchors
drove down and took a lobbing cross that was headed into SC 24’s
goal to tie it at 2-2. The Clubbers seemed to flow today as Mike
Fabbri found an out of position goalie and touched the ball over his
head into the far corner for a 3-2 lead. The passing by both teams
were a sight to see, as a give and go from Daniel to Rolando
then back to Daniel in the penalty box, but taken down was Daniel.
Another penalty shot and Dave Fleischer putting an 8 year streak of
not missing a penalty shot on the line, the whistle blew and the
score was 4-2. The last goal of the game was a mad scramble in front
of the Anchors net and Mike Fabbri found his rebound and sent it
home for the final score 5-2. Manager Chris Stockman was out of town
but would have been very happy with the result of this very well
played game. That's how the game went. Sort of.
The entire team played a fantastic game today, what a
great win.
