Austrian
Sport Club 1924 B vs SHAPAAP
The
return of sniper Ron Karam and an adequate number of sideline
substitutes proved a formula for success as the Austrian Sport Club
B-Team got back on track this week with a win against SHAPAAP at
Austrian Park on Sunday. ASC-B got off to a quick start with a
stellar drop-shot goal by Mark Sokolowski that sailed over the
outstretched arm of the SHAPAPP goaltender. Mark received a great
pass to the left wing by Ron Karam and took it up the wing before
burying the ball in the corner of the net. ASC-B led 1-0. Keeping
the pressure on the visiting team, Markus Brown, again from the left
side, blasted the ball to the goal from the corner for forward Chris
Noe to put in his third goal of the season on a header. ASC-B now
led 2-0. Before closing out the half, ASC-B would strike again on a
free kick from defenseman Randy Hyduk which setup a header by Ron
Karam to notch his sixth goal of the year. ASC-B led 3-0 at the
half.
During the
second half, tempers boiled over as the reeling SHAPAAP players
struggled to get back into the game. Their lone goal came on a
defensive miscue that was taken the other way and buried in the back
of the net. SHAPAAP now trailed 3-1. Looking to get back into the
game, the SHAPAAP forwards charged the net on a breakaway. As the
ASC-B goaltender left the net to challenge the shot,
it was popped over him toward the goal, but ASC-B defenseman Hans
Steiniger was in position for a great header to deny the sure goal.
ASC-B controlled the ball for much of the second half utilizing
adequate substitution to keep everyone fresh. With fresh bodies
rotating in and out of the game, they easily outlasted the visiting
SHAPAPP team. Final Score: 3-1 ... their first home victory.
ASC-B's final
game before the summer break will be a rematch against the first
place Romeo Raiders at Austrian Park during the Austrian Society's
Waldfest on June 29, 2008.

Austrian Sport Club 1924 A vs Celtics
Looking to continue
the good play from last week, the Sport Clubber faced off against
the Canton Celtic team. The Celtic started the game short so Sport
Club knew they needed to get an early lead. They pushed 3 forwards
at the Celtic backline, but they were holding their ground. At the
30 minute mark of the first half, Bryan Crowe was able to back heel
a pass that sprung Lars Ludwig free and he made no mistake on the
shot gaining the 1-0 advantage. Celtic didn't give up, and got the
equalizer right before half on a corner kick where 3 of the Austrian
team
members slipped on the wet turf trying to get to the ball. ASC
clearly held the play for the half, and didn't let up in the second
half. Joe Wargo played a free kick from the defensive side of the
pitch, and Mike Fabbri out hustled the Celtic keeper to put away the
2-1 goal, and that is how the game ended. "We played a very
controlledgame today. We are building each game on the last and
getting stronger as a team," team manager Chris Stockman said.
"We should be better in the second half of the season against the
teams we didn't play well against." Next game is June 29, Austrian
Society Waldfest, against FSC Pumas at noon at Austrian Park.. |
