It was a great day for football today, but the
sport clubbers had a tough task ahead playing the first place Athens
team. AEK started out the game down a man, and ASC was trying to
take advantage of it, with Mike Fabbri placing a chip shot over the
keeper that found the cross bar instead of the net. Once the
greek team was at full strength, it was obviuous why they are in
first place. Their skill moving the ball and finding the open man
resulted in 3 first half goals to nil for the Austrian side. Sport
Club started out the second half keeping the ball on the ground and
playing to the wings. A centering pass got to Mike Fabbri, but he
was taken down in the box and Mark Kurzer converted the penalty for
ASC1924. Five minutes later a miscue between the AEK keeper and his
defender got to Joe Glinski, but he wasn't able to convert before
the keeper recovered. Mark Kurzer had antoher chance tha went wide
on the far side with the keeper stretching to keep it out of the
net. that would end the chances for Sport Club, and the Athens
side would score twice more to finish the game at 5-1. "They are
skilled with the ball, and our guys were tired. Had we more subs, we
may have been able to press more knowing they didn't have any
either, but their skill won out today: Chris Stockman, Austrian team
manager said.
