Austrian
Sport Club 1924 B (1)
vs. Club Italia B (4)
On an
unseasonably cold morning in June, the Austrian Sport Club B Team
locked horns with Orion Gold Rush at Friendship Park in Lake Orion.
The cold temperatures proved ideal as ASC-B charged out to a quick
start with an early goal by ASC-B assassin Ron Karam on a pass from
RC Bunger. The ASC-B defense held strong throughout the first
half and even lent scoring support when needed. With his back
to the net, defenseman Lee Scadden scored the second ASC-B goal with
a great pivoting hook shot, on a perfectly placed corner from Markus
Brown to put ASC-B up 2-0. The rout continued as Tim Jacobson
also found the back of the net on a great pass by Jim Russo as ASC-B
led 3-0. Not to be outdone by his defensive cohort, Angel
Martinez advanced the ball to the penalty box area on a great give
and go from RC Bunger. Angel brought the ball down with his
chest and took the first shot which was deflected by the Orion
goalie. He got possession of the ball again and put it in the
net. ASC-B led 4-0 as the half expired.
In the second half with the wind in their face, ASC-B still found
scoring opportunities but couldn't find a way through Orion’s
offside trap which resulted in two goal’s being disallowed.
The Orion Gold Rush team came on strong in the second half, scoring
a single goal to bring the score to 4-1. Throughout the
second half, the two teams exchanged scoring opportunities.
Goalie Paul Thomas made some extraordinary saves on Orion breakaways
to keep the Orion Gold Rush team frustrated. Frustration led
to a loss as the defense and Goalie Paul Thomas kept the Gold Rush
forwards in check and ASC-B knotched a 4-1 victory to bring their
record to 2-2. With home games over the next three weeks
against Club Italia B, SHAPAAP, and the Romeo Raiders, if the ASC-B
team can find a way to win at home, they should be in good shape
going into the summer break.

Austrian Sport Club 1924 A (1) vs. AEK
Athens (6)
SportClub was
hoping to build on the last game as they played their best game of
the season in the win. Today was not meant to be that day. The
Athens players moved the ball well during the first half, but their
efforts were turned back time after time until near the end of the
first when one of their forwards was able to turn on the ball and
get the lead. SportClub struck back early in the second half
as MIke Fabbri placed a cross from the right to Tim Lisowsky, who
beat the keeper with a solid header. Athens was able to gain the
lead again on some quick ball movement and a good shot. Then
the referee booked one of the Sportclub players with a red card
putting them down a man. The ball movement was too much for
SportClub as they just couldn't keep Athens away from the goal. The
game ended 6-1 in favor of AEK Athens. "There isn't much I can
say today," Team Manager Chris Stockman said. "We didn't win the
middle like we did against Troy, and once we went down a man, they
moved the ball too well for us to keep them out." The next
game is Sunday June 8 against CSC Rovers at 11:00. |
