Austrian
Sport Club 1924 B (2)
vs Intra B (4)
Ideal weather
conditions greeted the team as they arrived in Ferndale for Game
three of the MUSL season against the Intra B squad. The sun was
out, but a steady breeze from the south kept the temperature
moderate. The soccer field at Ferndale High School was a modern
FieldTurf synthetic surface, so a very fast game was expected.
The quickness of the Intra B squad was on display as they scored
three quick goals putting the Austrian Sport Club B-team in a hole
from the start. They were down 3-0. Just before the half Mark
Sokolowski scored on a header from perfectly placed John Sullivan
corner kick. The comeback was on as Austrian Sports Club
pulled within two goals as the first half came to a close 3-1
For the second half, with the wind in there face, ASC B tightened up
the defense and tried to mount a comeback. Intra B scored again
putting ASC B down 4-1, but ASC B responded. Jim Russo
received the ball wide on the right side near midfield. He
carried it toward the middle of the field as Ron Karam angled from
the left side toward the goal. Russo fed him a hard, 20 yard
pass. Gaining control of the ball, Karam quickly turned losing
his mark and beat the keeper from outside the box, to pull the team
within two goals 4 – 2. Toki Nestorovski placed a couple of
nice indirect penalty kicks in front of the goal, but ASC B snipers
were unable to convert. The game ended in an ASC B loss 4 – 2.
The ASC B team will be on a break until June when play resumes.
Their record is 1 – 2.

Austrian Sport Club 1924 A (3) vs.
Troy Chargers (1)
A rainy, Wednesday
was the set for the ASC A vs.Troy Chargers. Focusing on a win the
team was ready to play. SC passed well and had many chances in the
first half, especially when Basil Badawi weaved his way through the
remaining defender and hammered a shot as he fell, banging it off
the crossbar. The game stay 0-0 at half. SC 'A' continued to play
well. The defense were very strong today lead by Chris Stockman who
continually made the incoming thru balls pay dearly by forcing them
back into the Chargers end. Goals started to find their way into the
net for the A team by Mark Kurzner, Roberto Pelini and a play set up
by Mike Fabbri to Curtis Reid. As the ball looked like it was going
to go out of bounds with no way to get to it, Mike Fabbri turned on
the speed and caught the ball just inches before it was going out
and lifted the ball down the sidelines right to Curtis Reid's foot,
who outplayed the defender and put the ball into the net. The
Chargers put a goal in but could not muster up enough life today to
beat the 'A' team. The entire team played like a team on a mission.
Final score 3-1. |
