ASC 1924 A
(0) vs
FC
Vardar (3)
After heavy rains the night before
the pitch was terrible, but the referees ruled it ok to play. Things
didn't start out well for the Sport Clubbers, as a penalty was
awarded to Vardar after a mistimed tackle in the box, which was
converted for the 1-0 lead. The middle of the field was under
water, to at least boot depth, which made dribbling the ball nearly
impossible, which was evident when Mark Kurzer tried and ended up
taking a bath in the muck. Vardar was able to capitalize on a give
and go and went out to a 2-0 lead at the half. ASC had their
chances, but nothing was going to convert for them this day. A well
placed cross by Roberto Pelini to Ed Monley was headed just wide as
Mike Fabbri was rushing the goal. A chance by Curtis Reid went past
the far post untouched, and yet another by Reid was placed off the
goal post, an inch away from getting a score. Vardar was able to
extend to 3-0 in the second half, and that is how the game would
end. Team Manager Chris Stockman said, "Nobody wanted to play in the
middle of the field where all of the water was, and we really lost
the middle of the field today. We had our chances, we just couldn't
convert."
