ASC 24 O-40 (1)  vs.  Club Italia(1)

Wednesday’s match between Sport Club 40+ and Club Italia ended in a 1-1 draw.   Club Italia scored the first goal after sneaking past a “certain defender” to steal the ball and score.  After that embarrassment, the defense tightened up and performed well for the remainder of the game.  The Sportster’s goal game mid-way in the first half.  Stuart Kelly took the far corner kick driving it hard through the middle at about eight yards out from the goal line.  As the ball came across,  Randy Bart made a short run at the near post and a fantastic flying dive to head the ball into the upper left corner of the net.   It was a thing of beauty.  Someone commented that Randy was up at least six feet to meet the ball.  Nice job Randy!   Even Club Italia was in awe.  The score at the end of the half was 1 to 1.  The second half was much more evenly matched.   However, I do believe that we missed more shots than they did.  The game was highlighted by Club Italia’s soap opera star forward who took to the ground moaning and groaning every time he was touched.  His last performance earned him a yellow card for delay of game as everyone was annoyed with the acting.  Patrick Weekhout was back in the goal for the Sportster’s and made many saves.   All in all, it was a good match.  The next game is at home on Wed. September 2nd at 6:30 against the Brighton Seagulls
